It happened that as the years progressed, we took notice of each of our individual passions and skills. When we tried those out on our unknowing test markets, better known as neighbors and friends, to great success, a light went off! Thus the birth of a company that we take pride in and
the lovely line of products within the Flameworks family!
Ken is a smokin’ hot barbeque aficionado. He brings his Southern American BBQ experience north of the border to us Canadians. Sue is a savoury foodie, whose passion emanates both in the kitchen and on the plate. Together, we entertain friends and family with our smoked and BBQ specialties. Once the food is served, the conversation immediately ceases and is followed by a brief moment of silence. Then the silence is broken by the sounds of lips smacking, finger lickings and oohs and ahhs.
The majority of BBQ sauces available commercially in supermarkets are a combination of tomato sugar water or watery sugar with flavourings. Not ours! Our sauces, marinades, rubs and hot pepper jelly are family recipes and kitchen perfected. We use whole ingredients and do not add preservatives or additives. Our products are based on fresh ingredients that you can taste – we don’t add water and sugar is not the first ingredient listed.
Ken is saddled with G6PD deficiency – an inherited condition where his body doesn’t have enough of the enzyme glucose-6- phosphate dehydrogenase, or G6PD, which helps his red blood cells function normally. This deficiency can cause hemolytic anemia, usually after exposure to certain medications, foods, or even infections. So for us, most processed foods, preservatives and additives are off the menu! Not a bad thing – for us and for you!
We don’t want food that is laden with chemicals and artificial ingredients. We don’t think you do either. So, we offer an alternative that is not only delicious but is free of all those ingredients that one needs a PhD to pronounce. The end result is the ability to enjoy good eats the natural way. For those who do not bbq, our products are oven and stovetop friendly.
